December Advice

News image

Not only do us gardeners need some winter protection, when we are out and about in the garden, but so does certain half hardy evergreens, pots and various garden sundries.

Move half hardy plants situated in pots to a sheltered position against a south or southwest facing wall. Protect half hardy evergreens by building a tent like structure from bamboo canes and cover with clear polythene or fleece, although try to avoid leaving the material touching the foliage. Instead ensure that the polythene or fleece is securely fixed so that it doesn't sag. Mulch half hardy and frost hardy perennials with a layer of straw or bark at least 10cm deep for the winter months.
