April Advice

The arrival of April signals full speed ahead for gardening tasks, whether you are gardening at home or growing your own fruit and vegetables on the allotment.

Ornamental Gardening

April is the time of year for your lawnmower to make a reappearance; in fact you may well have already started to cut the lawn last month with the blades set high for the first few times.

After mowing the lawn I'd recommend you apply our Complete 4 in 1 formula to green the lawn, which eliminates weeds as well as moss and improves water absorption. Here at the Gardening Club we also recommend Surestart, with a 5-day repair lawn seed and feed to repair those bare and worn patches.

Herbaceous plants should be showing new growth, and the Spiraea arguta is now in full bloom. Grow young bedding plants on in containers to allow them to get established and provide its colour display from end of May. These containers could be placed outside during the day however they will need protection against frost. Sometimes one can be caught out by a frost even though it had not been forecast.
